Porous

alumina

Porous aluminum oxide is an ordered ceramic material featuring regularly arranged nanopores. The membranes provided by SmartMembranes consist of uniform, parallel pore structures with precisely controllable pore sizes in the nanometer range.

The material is available as free-standing membranes or as one-sided closed templates, combining high porosity with thermal stability. Owing to its structural uniformity, porous alumina is particularly well suited as a functional substrate for analytical and microscopic applications.

In addition, porous alumina is widely used as a template for the controlled fabrication of micro- and nanostructures, such as nanotubes, nanorods, or hybrid material systems. This makes it a versatile material platform for applications in analytics, filtration, and nanotechnology.

SmartPor

SmartPor membranes feature round pores with a highly uniform pore diameter. The variation in pore diameter is below 10% and remains constant along the entire pore length, ensuring excellent reproducibility in filtration and analytical applications.

Within the individual aluminum grain boundaries, the pores are arranged in a trigonal pattern, resulting in a highly ordered pore structure. This well-defined geometry enables precise separation performance and makes SmartPor membranes particularly suitable for demanding analytical applications where a narrow pore size distribution is essential.

FlexiPor

FlexiPor is a product line of nanoporous aluminum oxide featuring an asymmetric pore structure with two functionally different membrane surfaces. The top side exhibits larger pore diameters that remain constant along the entire pore length, enabling high flow rates. The bottom side defines the effective filtration cut-off through smaller pore openings that can be precisely adjusted depending on the specification.

This geometry enables precise filtration with a defined separation threshold while ensuring high reproducibility. Owing to its high pore density and high porosity, FlexiPor is particularly suited for applications requiring flexible yet controlled separation.

FlexiPor membranes are hydrophilic, compatible with a wide range of solvents, and manufactured without additives, minimizing sample contamination. Their low protein adsorption and near transparency in wet conditions allow direct microscopic analysis without the need for sample transfer.

Typical applications include micro- and nanoplastic filtration and analysis, HPLC mobile phase filtration and degassing, ultra-cleaning of solvents, and use as templates for nanostructure fabrication.

    MakroPor
